A great track record: pump tracks proving popular with Australian holiday parks – especially in Victoria!

With wheeled sports being so popular in Victoria, and the state boasting some of the country’s best mountain bike trail regions, the surging interest in pump tracks is not surprising.

For holiday parks, the combination of excitement for kids and relaxation for parents is not exactly a secret recipe – it’s tried and tested for increasing family night stays.

With today’s kids prone to short attention spans and sometimes more devices than hands, satisfying their recreational needs means having park attractions that get them moving, and keep them moving.

Enter the Modular Pumptrack System: Installed above ground, a pumptrack is a curved track with perfectlyformed bumps and turns, that enables anyone on wheels to ride with ease. Pumptracks provide a great riding and skating experience, in an allocated area – which also increases park safety.

So why have Victorian holiday parks jumped on board with such gusto? It’s simple really.

Modular Pumptracks are an ‘all-season’ attraction and for holiday parks across Victoria, this is very important.

The husband-and-wife team behind Parkitect, the Australian distributor of Modular Pumptrack, brought the product to Australia after seeing how well-enjoyed it was in Europe. Parkitect now custom-build tracks for virtually any space and budget.

Parkitect Co-founder Shaun Leicester says parents are driving this trend just as hard – wanting their kids to spend less time on screens and more time socialising and being active.

“The tracks are great for parents – the kids are kept active and safe, and parents can sit back and take a break. It’s a win-win,” says Shaun “For a park attraction, the ‘self installation’ set-up is quite simple and parks are experiencing a fast return on their pumptrack investment” commented Shaun.

Having purchased a Modular Pumptrack in 2017, John Hider-Smith of BIG4 Port Fairy says the track has become an important asset for his park.

“The equipment arrived on the day promised and we were able to install the track in two days, just in time to have it up and running by the Christmas holiday season,” said John.

“Its use by children of all ages is testimony to the popularity of this facility in our park.” Age is proving no limit for the all-season attraction.

The modular design means that rider flow and safety is guaranteed on every track design – whatever the age and skill level.

The Modular Pumptrack System allows people to engage in the play-space together, having fun on bikes, scooters and skateboards, challenging themselves in a controlled environment while having fun with family and friends.

“Our Modular Pumptrack has been an absolute hit with our guests, both young and old. It’s a great asset to our park.” shared Fiona and Adrian, Managers at BIG4 Apollo Bay Pisces Holiday Park.

So far in Victoria, BIG4 Port Fairy, BIG4 Mornington Peninsula, BIG4 Apollo Bay Pisces Holiday Park and Nagambie Lakes Leisure Park have installed Modular Pumptracks, with more deliveries in the pipeline. Whilst seasonal Modular Pumptrack locations across Victoria including Mt Buller and Dinner Plain are helping create an enormous following which is directly feeding into the Victoria holiday park industry.

Additionally, Bicycle Network Victoria actively uses their ‘mobile’ Modular Pumptrack to promote riding at schools and community bike events, driving more and more kids and their parents to search for pumptrack locations.
